Role and use
Pharmaceutical intermediates, mainly used in the production of anthelmintic drugs piperazine phosphate, piperazine citrate, as well as fluphenazine, codondine, and rifampicin. Piperazine hexahydrate is dissolved in ethanol, added with glacial acetic acid, stirred and cooled to precipitate piperazine acetate, which is used to synthesize the hormone drug prednisone sodium phosphate. Piperazine hexahydrate reacts with acetic anhydride to prepare acetpiperazine, an intermediate of the anthelmintic pipenithiazole.
